about

Recorded live and acoustic at various locations throughout Wilmington, DE from November 2004 to November 2005. The shows were presented by former MVOI bassist Joe Dugan who joined Jared on each evening for several of the tracks.

Recorded to cassette with two stage mics, these are the only documents of these live shows to exist. Though Morris and Dugan performed a handful of songs by Year of the Comet and My Version of It, many of the songs presented here have been previously unreleased in any form.

This collection represents a unique time period for me. Usually referred to as The College Years, this set highlights my songwriting after the MVOI "From The Mothman 6" album and before our full rock comeback in 2006 culminating in the "One Way" album. It also predates the medicated years and is just at the beginning of the radio years. Though I'm still leaning heavily on the MVOI songs written in 2004, many of the songs are then-new and have never been released in any form before today. In a way, it's some of my purest songwriting, in that I had no concept for writing songs that people might want to hear. I just wrote what I wrote. Many of them have a sunny disposition that is betrayed by the words. These shows also included many covers by bands like XTC, The Beatles, R.E.M., Bob Dylan, The Residents, Oprichniki, Warren Zevon and the WMC Fishclub. The rather manic approach to these songs can be explained by a wealth of personal tragedies such as deaths, loss of friends, leaving my hometown, etc. These themes present in many on the tunes heard here. Truth is, and thankfully, I can't write like I did here and I don't always like to hear the person who is singing them. He seems to have the idea that singing louder will muffle the pain. I want to talk former MVOI bassist and cofounder of Save The Scientists who booked everyone of these performances and produced the show as well as joining me on stage for some of the MVOI classics. I didn't have any intention of letting these shows out of the vault, but I attempting to paint a more complete picture of my creative output which is lacking during the turbulent 2000s. -JMX
